The bathroom is often a place that is neglected in terms of decoration in our homes. But we often forget that it can be the ideal place to put a few plants. Many tropical plants need a good level of humidity to be healthy and grow well. The bathroom can therefore be a great alternative to provide a little more humidity to our plants.
However, it is crucial that the room has a window and also good lighting. If your bathroom doesn’t have a window… no real plants. It’s sad, but that’s how it is!
Here are some plants that particularly appreciate the humidity of a bathroom and will thrive there:
The Maranta

Also called the "prayer plant," the Maranta is, in my opinion, the perfect candidate for a bathroom. It requires a room that will have a lot of humidity. I could also add Calathea, Stromanthe, and even Ctenanthe, which need similar care.
It is a plant that loves to have a humidity level between 60 and 80%. As for watering, it is advisable to keep the soil slightly moist on the surface. It doesn’t like to be forgotten for too long. I strongly recommend, if you don’t want to rot the roots as I have so often done, to repot it in well-draining soil.
(My favorite mix is 50% indoor plant soil + 30% orchid soil + 20% perlite.) I use it for almost all my indoor plants. It also likes to be in a semi-hydroponic substrate called PON. Truly, it’s surprisingly easy to maintain! You can visit my social networks to learn more about this substrate.
Regarding its light needs, this is where it gets a bit more complicated. It needs good lighting, but not direct sunlight on its foliage, as its leaves can burn. (Unless they are gentle morning rays, that’s perfect!) So, if you have a bathroom that is really dimly lit, it won’t be ideal for it.
The Philodendron

Another plant that will thrive in a nice bathroom without requiring too much effort. It is often sold as a trailing plant or in a planter, but it is actually a climbing plant! I find it particularly beautiful in a hanging planter or on a shelf.
In terms of care, it tolerates direct sunlight but can easily adapt to a less well-lit room. For watering, it’s super simple: just wait until the soil is completely dry before watering it. It doesn’t really like to be too forgotten, so keep an eye on it!
There are plenty of varieties of Philodendron. Here are some varieties that I find beautiful and that are fairly easy to maintain:
· Philodendron Brasil
· Philodendron hederaceum
· Philodendron gloriosum
· Philodendron Red Congo — gets really big! Perfect for a large room.
· Philodendron Birkin — the variegation on the leaves is just beautiful.
· Philodendron Lemon Lime — a bit more challenging, this one!
The Syngonium

Finally, the Syngonium is a plant that will also do very well in a more humid and less sunny room. Its care is much the same as that of the Philodendron. You will need to water it when the soil is completely dry.
I also recommend giving it a small stake so it can climb. Here are some varieties of Syngonium that I love:
· Syngonium Red Arrow
· Syngonium Pink Confetti
· Syngonium Tricolor Red Spot
· Syngonium White Butterfly
· Syngonium Mojito
In conclusion, plants can really make all the difference in a bathroom! They instantly add a touch of life, make the room warmer, and can even give the impression of having created a mini spa at home.
Whether you have a lot of light or just a small, slightly darker corner, there is always a way to find a plant that will thrive in your home. So why not add one or two to your bathroom?
