Bélanger Garden Center, Landscaper and Florist: 3 generations of passionate entrepreneurs

In the beginning, Maurice Bélanger made his little rounds on the road to sell and deliver his flowers for $0.05 a pot. Nearly 60 years later, his well-established company in Amqui owns 9 greenhouses, a flower shop, a residential and commercial landscaping department, snow removal services, and employs 100 active employees during the peak season.

A family story spanning 3 generations

It is the grandchildren of the founder, Camille and Alexis, who will take over the company in the coming years. For them, it is a true family tradition to follow in the footsteps of their grandparents and parents by running their own business. Having grown up in the entrepreneurial environment, it was natural for them to take this path from a very young age.

After exploring different options, Camille finally found her place in the family business as the manager responsible for purchasing, marketing, and human resources, while her brother is a foreman on the construction sites and an assistant planner.

A rhythm according to the seasons

The company has experienced rapid growth in recent years, but our family is proud of its values, says Camille. Bélanger Garden Center, Landscaper and Florist, is a guarantee of quality, integrity, team spirit, and family cohesion. We work hard together for six to seven months of the year in a very dynamic and lively environment where each day is different from the last, she continues. The adrenaline that accompanies this peak period is what drives us to give our best.

In winter, the pace slows down a bit, and we focus on the flower shop, Christmas trees, Valentine's Day, and snow removal. But we never lose sight of our goal: to continue building strong relationships with our clients, suppliers, and friends while remaining innovative and growing our business.

Bélanger Garden Center, Landscaper and Florist has been a member of the Passion Jardins banner for nearly 20 years. Camille mentions that being part of this group of entrepreneurs in the horticultural field allows them to feel supported and understood by people sharing the same interests and experiencing the same professional experiences. As the marketing manager, she is proud of her belonging to this community and how it saves time and energy.

Projects and more projects

In the next ten years, this company wishes to place innovation at the heart of its priorities, as well as the well-being of its employees. They have many projects in mind, such as implementing automatic watering in their greenhouses, which will improve efficiency and make a big difference.

One of the highlights of 2022 was a commercial planting project on top of a steep slope in Percé. Camille was in charge of the plant orders, and the more she looked at this project, the more she thought, "but how are we going to plant all these plants on such a steep slope." After thinking about it, she had the idea of maybe using a helicopter, but she thought it would cost a fortune. She still conducted several searches to assess feasibility. By calculating her employees' round trips, she finally concluded that she had to convince her father that it was THE best idea for the well-being and efficiency of the employees. They eventually used a helicopter to transport the pallets of plants down the slope. The employees were really delighted (and much more fit at the end of the week), and the planting lasted 3 days instead of 2-3 weeks. Even the contractor, site supervisors, and the delivery person were on-site to watch everything. A wonderful experience and an achievement that Camille will remember all her life; lowering pallets of plants by helicopter in Percé, wow!

The Bélanger family is proud of their company and everything they have accomplished together. They have completed five major renovations to expand their premises and offer more services to their clients.
