Want some pretty vintage ornaments? I'll quickly show you how to make them at home with almost nothing! You can place them on the Christmas tree, use them as place markers, or even as decorations on gift packages. Happy holiday crafting!

Materials:

–     Air-drying clay OR homemade self-hardening dough recipe
–     Rolling pin
–     Sticks
–     Plants (evergreens, leaves, herbs, flowers, etc.)
–     Cookie cutters (shapes of your choice)
–     Paintbrush
–     Gold paint (preferably acrylic)
–     Parchment paper
–     String
–     Scissors

Steps:

  1. Warm the clay in your hands.
  2. Place it on a flat surface between 2 sticks.
  3. Flatten it with the rolling pin until it reaches the height of the sticks.
  4. Remove the sticks, place a leaf or small branch on top, and transfer it onto the clay by rolling the pin over it gently.
  5. Delicately remove the plant and cut out the ornament with the cookie cutter.
  6. Pierce a hole at the top of the ornament to hang it.
  7. Place the ornaments on parchment paper and let them dry for at least 24 hours (depending on the thickness of your ornaments).
  8. Once completely dry, paint the plant impressions with gold paint.
  9. Thread a string through the hole, and you're done!

Tips and Tricks:

  • If you don't have time to buy air-drying clay, I suggest using this recipe. It's easy to make with what you have at home!
  • This tutorial is a fun craft, perfect for doing with the family.
  • Any plant can be used to make transfers onto the clay.
  • If you want to shorten the drying time of your ornaments to go faster, place them on parchment paper and a baking sheet. Put everything in the oven at the lowest possible temperature. However, you'll need to stay nearby and turn them occasionally to keep them flat. When the clay's color is uniform, it's dry!

Happy holidays to everyone!
