Prepare Your Garden Soil in 8 Easy Steps

By the end of April or the beginning of May, the soil is dry enough to start preparing your garden. Follow these 8 steps without neglecting any:

  1. Completely remove the turf from the chosen location.
  2. Loosen the soil by turning it over about 30 cm deep if you are planting in rows, and 20 cm if you choose the raised bed technique.
  3. Clear the area of any residue such as:
    – roots
    – weeds
    – large stones
    – etc.
  4. Spread enriched transplant soil with marine compost:
    – for the row technique, spread 5 cm over the entire surface
    – for raised bed cultivation, 15 to 20 cm on each section
    – gently turn the soil so that it mixes with the initial soil.
  5. Add natural organic or biological fertilizer as needed, as this may sometimes be necessary depending on the vegetables grown, the most demanding are:
    – squashes
    – cucumbers
    – tomatoes
    – eggplants.
  6. Perform sowing according to the recommendations on the seed packet. Choose organic seeds preferably.
  7. Plant, respecting the correct distance between plants.
  8. Practice companion planting. This technique involves growing plants alongside others to ward off certain insects or diseases.
