We all love having a beautiful garden full of flowers and lush flower beds all summer long. But whether due to a lack of time or interest, we also appreciate not having to spend hours pampering our plants. Maintenance-free landscaping does not exist. There is always a minimum to be done: a bit of weeding, watering, pruning or cutting back, etc. Some plants are more delicate and require more care from gardeners, while others live their lives quietly with minimal maintenance. Here is our top 5 of low-maintenance hardy perennials.
Hostas
Hostas are appreciated for their colorful and bright foliage more than their flowering. Tolerant of shaded areas, they will even beautify the undergrowth where sunlight is very rare. You can easily divide them when they have expanded too much.

Daylilies
Daylilies are very easy to grow and have a long lifespan. More often yellow and orange, but also available in red, pink, and purple, daylily flowers last only one day, but as the flowering is abundant, it’s not an issue. Even when not in bloom, daylilies are very ornamental thanks to their dense foliage reminiscent of grasses.

Rudbeckias
Rudbeckias resemble daisies, but with yellow petals topping a dark brown almost black center. Easy to grow, they thrive in full sun or partial shade. They bloom from July to September, and you only need to remove the faded flowers and cut back the foliage in autumn or spring to ensure their health. They bring sunshine everywhere!

Astilbes
With their feather-like flowers in red, pink, white, or purple, astilbes tolerate moist soils and shaded areas. Their delicate and well-cut foliage adds even more beauty to these versatile perennials.

Yarrows
Yarrow is very hardy, even slightly invasive; you will need to control it from time to time so it doesn’t spread too much. With its small flowers grouped in clusters, it tolerates drought and very sunny locations. Various colors can be found in nurseries: white, red, pink, and orange.
